Kyocera Echo dual touchscreen smartphone

After QWERTY, touchscreen and QWERTY-touchscreen devices hopping into the markets across the globe, mobile scenario gets a new dual touchscreen handset. Sprint now takes a step ahead by exclusively dishing out the Kyocera Echo, a smartphone with two touchscreens.

This Android-based device has been integrated with two high-resolution 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen displays. Both screens are connected with a pivot hinge, enabling them to operate separately and also as a combined 4.7-inch screen (diagonally). The dual-screen ability is basically to boost multi-tasking so that users can surf the web on one screen while watch a video on the other.
“Sprint is proud to boast the most powerful Android portfolio available today and Echo adds to that legacy with industry-leading technology that will change the way our customers use smartphones,” said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse. “Today’s busy schedules often demand that we do at least two things at once. Kyocera Echo is the first device that allows us to do a different task on each of two screens while also providing a tablet-like, larger screen experience that easily fits in a pocket when closed.”
This pocket-friendly, single-display smartphone while in closed position touts to bring to users a new level of versatility. It can be used in four modes namely, Single-screen, Simul-Task, Optimized and Tablet. The Single-screen allows it to function as a single-display touchscreen. The Simul-task as the name suggests enables phone’s seven core apps to function simultaneously on these screens. In optimized mode, both displays support one app so a user can compose a mail on one screen while the second screen serves as a touchscreen keyboard. Lastly, the tablet mode spreads the application throughout both screens for a complete 4.7-inch viewing experience.

The feature-sheet of the Echo is inclusive of 5 megapixel camera, 720p HD camcorder, stereo Bluetooth, spare battery, low-profile charging cradle, 1GB built-in memory and 8GB microSD card with a slot that can support up to 32GB memory. The Software Development Kit (SDK) and developer guide for Kyocera Echo will be offered prior to the launch of the Sprint Application Developer Program (ADP) website.

The Kyocera Echo can be purchased for $199.99 along with a two-year agreement or eligible upgrade after a $100 mail-in rebate. It will be available in Spring through Sprint website and telesales. However, activating Echo requires Sprint Everything Data plans and also $10 Premium Data add-on charge for smartphones. Users can also opt for a $29.99 per month plan to activate Echo’s mobile hotspot feature, connecting up to five Wi-Fi devices. The above mention prices do not include surcharges and taxes.
