HTC Flare, a New Concept Based on Sense UI, Created by Terillo Walls

Designer Terillo Walls created a brand new HTC concept phone, the Flare model, shown in the images below. This device uses the HTC Sense UI and features a metal back, 8 megapixel camera and it has a solid feel overall.

Sony Ericsson Shine U3-Based Phone Design is a Good First Attempt

We welcome the Esato board member redsaph to the world of concept phone creators, as he showcases his very first phone design, based on Sony Ericsson Shine U3. The device is part of the XPERIA series and comes with a 4.2 inch AMOLED display and a 12 megapixel camera with Xenon flash.

Yuxa is a Wearable Cellphone Made From Eco-Friendly Materials

Wearable phones are nothing new, but when this sort of design meets eco-friendliness, something interesting is bound to be created. Mexican designer Veronica Eugenia Rodriguez Ortiz created the Yuxa wearable cellphone concept, that can be worn around the user’s wrist, just like a bracelet or a watch.

Motorola Android Concept Phone Features Dual Core ARM A9 CPU

We knew that Motorola was readying a dual core smartphone, but what about a design to show off the device? DaQuan Freeman mailed us some pretty interesting sketches, showing a Motorola Android concept phone, with great specifications, available after the break.

This device integrates an AMOLED 4.78 inch capacitive touchscreen display with multitouch, an 8 megapixel camera with Dual LED flash and 720p HD video capture at 30 fps and NVIDIA’s Tegra 250 CPU. Powering the unit is a Dual-Core ARM A9 processor and we learn that the handset’s display is scratch-resistant, plus there’s a front facing camera and stereo speakers incorporated.

iPhone of the Future Video Gives You Chills

The iPhone 4 may be only two days away from reaching your hands, but we stop now and have a look at the device’s future. If things are going the way they are, somewhere in 2030, your Apple handset might look something like this:
This is an incredible video with great effects and we really wonder if that “neural interface” can really be achieved. As you can see, in the fast-text-scrolling side of the video, the futuristic iPhone will be scratch-proof, it’ll sport a walkie-talkie feature, a GPS, an iPet function and “thought control”.
Is this viable?


Sony Ericsson One WP7 Handset is Back

Jozef Kocúr is a name you’ve heard a bunch of times on our website, as the designer was responsible with some great Sony Ericsson concepts. Among them we must mention the Sony Ericsson One, a very appealing Windows Phone 7 handset, that was recently given a refresh on the designer’s site.

As you can see, the Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 touchscreen handset manages to feature both Walkman functions and PlayStation games, that will be very interesting to see in action, specially with the whole Xbox integration into WP7. Samsung Proxima Wristband Detachable Phone Will Never be Lost

Johan Loekito has found a way for you not to lose your mobile phone ever again. It’s called Samsung Proxima and it’s a concept that involves a cellphone with a wristband acting like a dock. The handset is detachable and it gets pictured below.

There’s also a proximity sensor on board of the Samsung concept phone, making the wristband emit a tone or vibrate if the phone is too far from it. This also helps the user find the device with a single button press. Samsung Proxima is able to detect other users with the same phone in your area and lets you contact them. Nokia EC509 Green Core

Nokia’s more busy with real handsets these days, than with concepts, but we’re glad to have stumbled upon such a design, created by Matteo Trisolini. He made the EC509 Green Core phone for Nokia, as an eco-friendly device, that comes with a PRT packaging carton, that can be re-used in order to send back the handset to its manufacturer for service.

Nokia EC509 relies on kinetic energy for powering it up and, as you can see, it features a hole, used to spin and charge the phone, without even requiring a battery. iPod Shuffle2020, Portable Music Player of the Future

Since iPhone concepts seem to have vanished now that the iPhone 4 was announced, let’s focus a bit on iPod designs. One such nifty initiative comes from José Ignacio Martínez, who created the very interesting iPod Shuffle2020, the portable music player of the year 2020. What’s surprising about this unit is that it comes with unlimited music and battery capacity.

The device is able to sync with iTunes via “G3 connection” each time it’s turned on, so the music will always be there and the same “G3 waves” will provide the energy to charge the player, keeping it forever functional. More info and images after the break...



Raptor Android Phone Concept Shown in Pics, Video

Terrillo Walls has posted a couple of other phone designs on our site before, so we knew this had to be good. What you can see below is the brand new Raptor Android concept phone, a very slim device with an unique design. Three main buttons are placed beneath the screen and there’s a pretty potent camera at the back, as well.

This handset comes with a charcoal case, instead of the normal black and although its specs are a mystery, we expect the device to be pretty high end. Sony Ericsson X10 Maxi, the Tablet Version of the XPERIA X10

Designer Frank Tobias has created yet another interesting tablet concept, based on the XPERIA X10 handset. Dubbed Sony Ericsson X10 Maxi, the slate comes with an 8 megapixel camera, Android 2.0 OS and 100GB of internal memory.

Sony Ericsson Aino Mini, a Tinier Version of SE Aino

Sony Ericsson Aino Mini is the latest Frank Tobias creation, a smaller version of the SE Aino handset. This new handset gets shown in the following images and we learn from the designer’s website that the device features a 10 megapixel camera with HD video recording and 10GB of memory.

BlackBerry 9999 Curve Concept, Designed by Abhay Vir

BlackBerry concepts are very rare in these parts, but we’re pleased to announce that we’ve finally found a pretty good looking design, that would suit RIM. Created by Abhay Vir, the BlackBerry 9999 Curve concept is shown below and it comes with a sexy form factor, based on the idea of “curve”, plus an interesting keypad.

The device also features a 5 megapixel camera at the back and the designer claims that the “soft shape” of the device is aesthetically pleasing. Right now, we’re wondering if the display on the handset is a touchscreen and if it is, we’re curious if it’s capacitive or resistive. Would you buy this product, if the BlackBerry design were real?

LG 3D Mobile Phone, Designed by Petr Kubik

Samsung already announced a 3D display mobile phone and we’ve all seen 3D television sets getting released lately. But what about other companies? Petr Kubik designed a 3D LG mobile phone concept, that includes glasses, an intuitive stylus and expandable screens. 3D movies and even tridimensional videocalling is supported on the device.

The 3D phone measures 66×133x14mm, features an adjustable leg support and a photovoltaic screen at the rear for instant recharging. It also comes with an expandable touch display, measuring 177×104mm. WiFi and Bluetooth are also on board, as well as Skype support, a mini USB port, speakers, a mic and 3D scanners. iPhone 4 Unveiled at WWDC 2010

WWDC 2010’s first keynote has jus ended, with Steve Jobs introducing the brand new iPhone 4… not the iPhone 4G, not the iPhone HD. The device is everything we knew from the leaks and Gizmodo analysis, but the design it not at all surprising, specially when compared to these concepts.

Nokia MeeGo Phone of the Future

Jedibeeftrix published an interesting post on this blog, detailing the future of Nokia devices, focused on the MeeGo platform. He also mentioned a wishlist for the features to appear on this ideal smartphone/MID/tablet. So, what do you want on it? Post a comment below and fill the wishlist!

As far as the blogger mentions, we learn that the handset should sport a 4 inch AMOLED WVGA display, a capacitive unit with multitouch support, a dual core ARM Cortex A8 CPU and a virtual keyboard.
A camera like the one on Nokia N8 should also be on board, plus a Xenon flash and enough memory and connectivity for the most picky users.

LG Fusion Incorporates a Mobile Scanner

We’ve been seeing quite a bunch of LG concept phones over the past week, most of them taking awards and honourable mentions at the LG Design the Future Competition. Here’s another interesting design, created by Drew Janiszyn and dubbed LG Fusion. The device incorporates a wraparound screen, as shown by one of the images below.

The handset uses a mobile scanner, that digitizes business cards and can also scan receipts and credit cards, for easier transactions. You can use the smartphone as a prepay unit, among others. Sony Ericsson Vivaz XL, Smartphone Turns Into Tablet Concept

Frank Tobias aka Remort1 from Esato created a brand new tablet, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz XL concept, that you can check out below. This is not his first tablet design, as he also created the very neat Sony Ericsson Maino Windows 7 slate.

Sony Playstation Phone, by Frank Tobias

It’s been a while since we saw the last Playstation Phone, but here’s another design, created by Frank Tobias, also known as Remort1, on the Esato board. The back side of the PSP Phone reminds us of the Playstation3 console, while the front side is very basic, with a full touchscreen and Home button.

LG Surface, a Watch Phone for the Blind, Featuring a Braille Keypad

As part of the LG Design the Future Competition, an honourable mention was also awarded to the LG Surface concept phone. This is in fact a watch phone for the blind, featuring a Braille keypad and an unique shape, allowing the user to sense the orientation of the device by feel.

LG Surface’s tapered shape helps the user distinguish its orientation and we learn that the two top pieces of the phone are connected. This concept includes a slide on/off watch band, allowing the unit to act as a free standing cellphone. The watch part is provided by two raised dots that move clockwise and tell hours and minutes.
The button on top will trigger the speak out loud function, the one on the left is used for send/receive features and right side button is used for delete/cancel. via

Esato board user juris15 has created a brand new XPERIA concept, that he showcased recently. We’re talking about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Daiki phone, pictured below, a pretty nice combo between the usual design of SE smartphones and the one of Cybershot cameras.

Although we have no info on the specs of this Sony Ericsson design, we can notice that it incorporates a 12 megapixel camera, with HD video recording, a pretty big flash and stereo speakers.

LG Atlas Concept Phone for the Disabled Relies on Hand Gestures

Among the devices that got LG Design the Future Competition awards (honourable mention), we have to mention the LG Atlas concept phone. Designed with the disabled users in mind, this device docks into a base that projects pages, so the user can view multiple apps at the same time.

The phone’s dock uses a tracking system that senses your hand gestures, allowing the user to spin the pages in a loop, plus zoom in and out. A phone with a projector is not a new idea, but the way this innovation is implemented on the Atlas is really something new.


LG Flutter Phone Design to be Featured in Future Blockbuster Movie

We continue to show you the results of the LG Design the Future Competition and today we’ve found the LG Flutter concept smartphone. This device received the first-ever Prop Mater’s Choice Award, given to Dua Xiong for the great design shown below.

The LG Flutter concept phone will have the unique opportunity of being featured in a future blockbuster film. This smartphone opens up like a fan, as shown in the image above and reveals a flexible OLED touchscreen display that scrolls radially.
Since this is a device that tends to look like a weapon, we’ll speculate that it’ll be featured in a superhero movie… or maybe a sci-fi production? via


LG Design the Future Competition Winners Announced: LG AL-i Concept Takes the Crown

The LG Design the Future Competition has come to an end, so now we know the winners of the challenge meant to find the future of LG mobile phones. LG partnered with crowdSPRING in this initiative and received no less than 400 design submissions. The winner is the AL-i concept, created by Zack Filbert, Chris Carpenter, James Connors, and Kees Luyendijk.
Unfortunately we can’t show you the design, but we can show you the second placed handset, LG Premium.

Back to the winner, AL-i is the work of second year industrial design students from the same design class in Virginia Tech. LG AL-i is a smartphone concept based on one-handed use. The students will receive $20,000 for their effort, plus Autodesk Alias Sketch software.
As far as Premium is concerned, this is a mobile phone with 3D interface that connects the phone and car together. It’ll allow the user to adjust in-car climate, control infotainment features, select seat memory and check tire pressure. The concept is the work of Nouphone Bansasine, a professional car designer. via
