Bamboo Phone, Most Eco-Friendly Device Ever

Last time I saw a phone that had anything to do with bamboo, I was checking out the Chute concept phone designed by Michael Laut. However, Gert-Jan van Breugel’s concept is far greener that any other device we’ve seen. It’s so green that it even becomes a plant once it’s disintegrated, as it includes bamboo seeds that can grow roots, once the handset’s case is buried.
Bamboo Phone, Most Eco Friendly Device Ever
The case of the Bamboo Phone is made out of bio-plastic and bamboo, keeping it really environmentally friendly. It relies on muscle power that provides it with electricity with the aid of a cranking charger. 3 minutes of cranking equals enough power for a call, plus the device’s display is monochrome and doesn’t eat much battery power.
A couple of statistics from the designer’s site show how we’re saving the planet by using this phone and they’re pretty convincing if you ask me. Too bad that the percentage of such phones is low, comparing to the rest, but at least Nokia’s going green too with the Remade phone.

Mimique Concept, Designed by RKS

Mimique Concept, Designed by RKS
This conceptual device, created by RKS Design is great looking and slim enough to catch a trendsetter’s eye. Notice that iPhone-ish interface on its touchscreen? The tiny antenna is old-school (in a good way), while the phone’s shape reminds me of a walkie talkie. Hmm, is it just me or does this concept resemble the good old Sony Ericsson T20 a bit?
I don’t quite understand where the name “Mimique” comes from, but my theory is this: the phone can mimic the colour of its surrounding environment. Now that would be something, wouldn’t it?
Yanko Design also wrote about this neat phone.

Gamer Phone Inspires LG’s Design Team

Gamer Phone Inspires LGs Design Team
While Sony and Samsung are showing us concepts and patents of their future gaming phones, Nokia’s still perfecting that N-GAGE platform and seemingly there’s no other competitor in this console/handset niche. Thank God for concepts, then! What you can see below is Gamer Phone, designed by RKS Design in order to “inspire LG’s internal design teams” as they state.
This beauty resembles the PSP a bit, only that it’s thinner and the display goes deeper into the body of the handset, plus it’s a touchscreen. Just hope that it comes with a neat and user-friendly interface, but for now I’m just wondering how am I going to hold this device pressed to my ear when I’m on the phone. Oh well, I’ll just use a headset…

Fli Phone, One Slim Rival For Sony Ericsson Walkman

It’s the trendsetter’s lucky day today, since RKS Design are at it again, introducing another good-looking concept phone, the Fli. It’s a slim device, that reminds of Motorola’s RAZR, but it packs more power and it’s even branded with Sprint’s logo. Could this be a sign of things to come?
Fli Phone, One Slim Rival For Sony Ericsson Walkman
The Fli concept phone features a camera and an MP3 player, nothing unusual so far, but it seems to be featuring a top media player and a hinge cover that you can flick in order to open it and answer a call. Hope the designers from Motorola are checking this out, so maybe they’ll get back on track.

LG Recall, a Curved Concept Phone

LG Recall, a Curved Concept Phone
Io Design sees the future of LG Electronics’ mobile phones taking the shape of the device pictured below. The Recall concept features a flexible hinge, and OLED display and a curved profile that can make any Motorola phone jealous. This slim device uses an uncoventional hinge, staying open after being flipped, just like a measuring tape.

Soft Phone Concept Goes Soft on Your Fingers

We’ve seen phones made out of anything, but still I’m puzzled by this Soft Phone concept, made from cotton. It’s been designed by Qian Jiang and it uses electronic cellulose structures to create an unique, soft and flexible handset.
Soft Phone Concept Goes Soft on Your Fingers
The Soft Phone is basically made out of a series of discs plus electronic fabric, while its interface is gesture-based. Well, you won’t use normal gestures, like flicking the phone or gently moving it, but you’ll squeeze this cotton wonder, instead, in order to hang-up for example. Deform the touchable surface and the phone feels the input. How cool is that?
You can turn the device’s keypad into a real QWERTY keyboard by using the phone’s collapsible structure, while the phone’s “guts” are held inside a tiny clip made out of resistant silica. What next? A chewing gum phone?
